"Uku Pacha" is the underworld of Inca mythology. This world constitutes the timeless space of the unborn, of ideas that have not been lived, of dreams, death, and of all that is unknown. The conceptual work of the company focuses on investigating our collective imaginary, with special attention to the dark corners of the imaginary, and even the unimaginable from our epistemological perspective.
Uku Pacha is a dance-theatre company created by Ariadna Grau and Ferran Gordillo with a strong transdisciplinary tendency. Their central research revolves around the idea of the "autonomous performer", which means that their performances arise from the materials that the performers are able to create. At the core of her practice is research into enhancing the performer's imaginative performing capacities, along with creative tools and improvisation methodologies. Her stage language focuses on finding an expression for performers that oscillates between figurativism and abstraction, finding a continuum of expression that allows them to inhabit from theatrical situations to abstract movements without difference, allowing each to be a continuation of the other. This range of expression, from abstraction to theatrical representation, generates the scenic situations. An everyday situation can gradually transform into abstraction, and vice versa.
